Institucional Chair on the Camino de Santiago and Pilgrimages

UNIVERSITY OF SANTIAGO DE COMPOSTELA

The Institutional Chair on the Camino de Santiago and Pilgrimages of the University of Santiago de Compostela was created by the Governmental Council on June 29, 2016 and is guided by a collaborative agreement, renewed every three years, among the University, the Tourism Agency of Galicia, and the Cathedral of Santiago.  Its principal mission resides in research on the Camino de Santiago and Pilgrimages, promotion of scholarly work that contributes to deepening reflection on and the healthy critique of both phenomena, as well as the promotion of the values associated with them.  To that end, the Chair organizes conferences, courses, seminars and related initiatives to achieve those goals.  It likewise collaborates with university faculty and schools in all matters that promote the well-rounded formation of educators, students and the general public to value the Camino de Santiago and Pilgrimage.  Among its programing it confers awards, supports research projects, sponsors publications, and other forms of dissemination.  Thanks to its work, year after year, it ties itself ever more closely to fresh initiatives at the university level.
